An all-star film, team, or show is one packed with famous people — the stars, not the unknowns. An all-star cast means many of the actors are already well-known; an all-star team means the players are among the best, often chosen from different clubs. In US sport there is also the All-Star Game, where the big names from each side play for fun and pride. The word here describes the group: it includes many famous actors or sports players. You can also call one person an all-star, but that noun use is more American and more sports-y. Posters love the word, so it can sound like advertising — though sports writing also uses it straight, without hype.
