    Alfa is the special spelling of 'alpha' used in the international radio alphabet (also called the NATO phonetic alphabet), the system pilots, police, and radio operators use to spell out letters clearly — 'A' is said as 'Alfa', 'B' as 'Bravo', and so on. It's spelled with an 'f' instead of 'ph' so people from many language backgrounds pronounce it the same way. Outside this system, 'Alfa' is also a well-known Italian car brand, Alfa Romeo.
