Al-Anon is a quiet, international set of meetings for people who love, live with, or grew up with someone who cannot stop drinking alcohol. The drinkers themselves often go to Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Al-Anon is for the family and friends — a parent, a partner, a child — who have been hurt by that drinking. They sit in groups, tell what happened, and try to find a way to live that does not break them. The feeling is private and kind, not like a hospital and not like a court. Though actually the name looks like AA, the room is not for the person who drinks. You do not need to be religious to go; you only need that family problem.
