In everyday talk, an airhead is someone who behaves in a stupid, empty way — as if there were air in their head instead of a brain. It is informal and : you say it to laugh at a person, or to complain that they do not think. It often describes someone who seems vague, silly, or not paying attention, not someone who has made one careful mistake. It has long been used more at young women than at men, which is messy and unfair; some people still use it that way, and some people now use it of anyone. Do not use it of a . Though actually, the same spelling is also a rare military word for a piece of enemy land seized so planes can land there, built like beachhead. That is a different meaning; the one you are learning here is the rude, informal one.
