An aide-de-camp is a military officer whose job is to help an officer of a higher rank — carrying messages, arranging visits, staying close so the senior officer can work. It is still a real army and navy title, and you also hear it in ceremonial jobs around a president, a governor, or a royal household.
An aide-de-camp is a military officeraide-de-camp是一種軍官 whose job is to help an officer of a higher rank工作是協助階級更高的軍官 — carrying messages, arranging visits, staying close so the senior officer can work傳遞訊息、安排訪問行程、隨侍在側,好讓上級軍官能專心做事。It is still a real army and navy title這現在還是陸軍和海軍裡真實存在的頭銜, and you also hear it in ceremonial jobs around a president, a governor, or a royal household你也會在總統、州長,或王室身邊的禮儀性職位裡聽到這個詞。
Everyday English almost never needs it; people more often say aide, or they name the rank. English kept the French words almost unchanged: aide de camp, “ of the camp”. The usual plural is aides-de-camp, with the s on aide.
Everyday English almost never needs it日常英文幾乎用不到這個詞; people more often say aide, or they name the rank人們更常說aide,或直接講出軍階。English kept the French words almost unchanged英文幾乎原封不動保留了這個法文詞: aide de camp, 'helper of the camp'aide de camp,意思是「軍營的幫手」。The usual plural is aides-de-camp常見的複數是aides-de-camp, with the s on aides是加在aide後面。
Though actually, in casual speech some people just say aide even for this military job, which is looser than the old title.
Though actually, in casual speech some people just say aide even for this military job不過其實,在口語裡有些人就算講這個軍職也只說aide, which is looser than the old title這比舊的頭銜要來得隨性。
