Agribusiness is farming treated as a business, often a large one. It covers growing food, but also selling seeds, machines, animal feed, packing, transport, and putting food in shops — the whole path from field to store. It can also mean one company that does this kind of work. The word was coined by the American teacher and diplomat John Herbert Davis, from agri- (from agriculture) plus business, or as a blend of agriculture and business. In some writing it just names the farm industry. In other writing it sounds a little sharp: big companies, not the small family farm. You will see it in news about food prices, trade, and land, not in a child’s story about feeding chickens.
