An agoraphobic is someone who has agoraphobia — a person who feels that strong fear of crowds, open spaces, or places that are hard to leave. The same word also works as an adjective: agoraphobic symptoms, an agoraphobic patient. In kind, careful talk, some people now say “a person with agoraphobia,” because calling someone only by an illness can feel ; you will still meet the noun agoraphobic in news and older writing. It is a serious word, not a joke about someone who likes staying in. It is built from agora- + -phobic, the same pieces as agoraphobia.
