Adventurism is when someone in charge — a government, an army, a company — takes dangerous risks, often to look bold or to win something quickly. News writers use it as a criticism. Military adventurism means starting risky fights you may not be able to finish. Political adventurism is gambling with policy. It is not a compliment, and it is not the fun of an adventure holiday. Ordinary people almost never say it about a weekend trip; it belongs to and business commentary. Though actually, the speaker is usually accusing the other side: almost nobody describes their own plan as adventurism. The word names a habit or a policy, not one small dare.
