ADSL is a way to bring the internet into a house through the old metal telephone wire. The same wire can still carry a phone call. Pictures, web pages, and video come down the line as computer data, and older books call this “very high speed” because, at the time, it was. Though actually, next to today's fibre (the glass-line internet), ADSL is rather slow, and many homes have switched. “Asymmetric” means the two directions are not equal: stuff coming to you is much faster than stuff you send out, because that is how most people use the net. People say the letters one by one: A-D-S-L. It is not Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi is only the radio inside the house; ADSL is one of the that can feed that box. In the 2000s it was the normal broadband in many places, Taiwan included.
組成Short for Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line. Asymmetric: not the same in both directions (download faster than upload). Digital: computer data. Subscriber line: the ordinary telephone wire into a house.
