1. 1

In a court, not every story, recording, or paper can be used. Admissibility is the question: is this allowed in as evidence? If yes, it is admissible; if no, the judge keeps it out. Lawyers argue about it all the time — how the police got the material, whether it is second-hand talk, whether it would sway the jury. The word is legal and formal. You almost never need it outside law, exams about law, or other places with strict rules. It is simply the noun for “being admissible.” Though actually, in ordinary life people say “Can we use this?” The long word is for the rule itself.
