- 1
An adenoidal voice is unpleasant and sounds as if it comes mainly through the nose — blocked, thin, a bit honking, the way a person sounds with a heavy cold, or when the soft tissue high in the throat behind the nose is swollen. It is not a kind description; people use it when the voice is hard to enjoy. Doctors and ordinary speakers both use it, though it feels a little medical. Though actually, that sound can be short (a cold) or long (swollen adenoids, especially in children). The word describes the sound, not the person’s character — though films sometimes give a character an adenoidal voice to make them seem weak or whiny, which is a bit unfair.
鼻音很重的(說話像從鼻子裡擠出來)
組成From adenoid + -al (“of or relating to”). So: to do with the adenoids, or sounding as if they are in the way.
