Adaptability is the name of a quality: you can change how you act, work, or live when the situation is new, and still do all right. The plan breaks; you do not. A person has adaptability. A team can have it. Job ads love the word. School reports use it. Nearby, biology talks about living things fitting a place, and software people talk about systems that cope with change, but in everyday English this is mostly praise for people who can shift. It is a noun. The adjective is adaptable; the verb is adapt. Though actually, it can be a kind word and a pressure at the same time. “We need adaptability” sometimes means “please do not complain when we change the rules again.” It is also not the same as adaptation. An adaptation is often one change you make (or a film made from a book). Adaptability is the ongoing ability to keep making those changes. You cannot point at adaptability on a table; you see it when someone meets a new city, a new teacher, a new app, and finds a way.
