To acquiesce is to let something happen, or to do what someone wants, even though inside you are not happy about it. You do not fight. You do not give a warm yes. You just stop saying no. It is a formal word — news, law, and serious writing more than chat. It is quieter than agree, and colder than accept. If you agree, you are with the idea. If you acquiesce, you give in. People can acquiesce with a sigh, with silence, or with a small nod they do not mean. You usually acquiesce in something or to something.

組成Borrowed from Middle French acquiescer, from Latin acquiescō: ad (“toward”) + quiescō (“to rest”), from quies (“rest”). The picture inside the word is “to come to rest” — you stop pushing.
