1. 1

If something is accepted, most people treat it as right, normal, or allowed. An accepted idea is one the group has already said yes to, even if nobody voted. Accepted practice is “the way we do it here.” It can feel warm — you are accepted by friends — or merely official, as in an accepted method in science.

If如果 something一件事 is accepted是 accepted, most people大部分的人 treat it as就把它當成 right對的、 normal正常的, or allowed或可以做的。 An accepted idea一個 accepted 的想法, is one就是 the group群體 has already said yes to已經點頭說好的那一種, even if nobody voted就算沒有人投過票。 Accepted practice is就是 “the way we do it here.”「我們這裡就是這樣做」。 It它 can feel warm可以很溫暖 — you你 by friends被朋友 are accepted接納 — or merely official也可以只是公事式的, as in像 in science科學裡 an accepted method一個公認的方法。

Though actually, accepted does not always mean true. It means people have agreed to live with it. Fashion, manners, and even science have accepted views that later change.

Though actually不過老實說, accepted並 does not always mean不一定表示 true是真的。 It means它的意思是 people大家 have agreed同意了 to live with it跟它一起過日子。 Fashion時尚、 manners禮俗, and even science甚至科學, have都有 accepted views公認的看法 that later change後來變了。

The same spelling is also the past of the verb accept (“She accepted the gift”), but this sense is the adjective: already agreed, already OK with the group.

The same spelling同一個拼法 is also也是 the verb accept動詞 accept 的 the past過去式 (“She accepted the gift”她收下了禮物), but但 this sense這裡的意思 is the adjective是形容詞: already agreed已經談定, already OK with the group群體已經覺得OK。
