- 1倫敦七七爆炸案（倫敦七七恐攻）
7/7 (you say “seven seven,” or “the seventh of July”) is the British name for 7 July 2005. That morning, young British men with bombs in their bags attacked three London Underground trains and one bus in the city centre. Fifty-two people on their way to work were killed. The attackers died too. They were British Muslim men, mostly from Leeds, with extreme religious beliefs.
The writing 7/7 copies the pattern of 9/11: a date turned into a short, heavy name for one day of terror. In British English the day comes first, so 7/7 is 7 July. In US writing the same numbers can mean July 7 — here that is the same calendar day — but the name 7/7 is a UK news word. Americans talking about this day usually say “the London bombings” or “July 7.”
It is a sombre, public word, used in UK news, memorials, and history. People do not use it for any other 7 July.
