In Australia, 000 is the telephone number you dial in a real emergency — police, fire, or an ambulance. People say triple zero or triple oh. It does the same job as 999 in Britain and 911 in the United States. You use it when someone may die, a fire is burning, or a crime is happening now; you do not use it because a tap is dripping. Though actually, Australia also tells mobile users about 112 (that one works in many countries), but 000 is still the number everyone there is taught. On an old rotary phone, 0 was easy to find in the dark, which is part of why emergency numbers were built from 9s and 0s.
在澳洲，000 是遇到真正緊急情況時要撥的電話，要叫警察、消防或救護車都撥這個號碼，大家會念成 triple zero 或 triple oh。它的作用和英國的 999、美國的 911 一樣。只有在有人可能會死、火正在燒，或犯罪正在發生時才用；水龍頭滴水就不用打。
澳洲的手機用戶也會被告知可以撥 112，這個號碼在很多國家都能用，但澳洲人還是最先被教 000。其實緊急號碼用 9 和 0，是因為老式轉盤電話上的 0 在黑暗中也好找。

組成A variant of the British 999. It was chosen as a number that worked on rotary-dial telephones, and Australia used 000 because callers from remote exchanges had to dial 0 first to reach the main trunk lines.
