    Great, energetic enthusiasm for something you care deeply about - a cause, a belief, a job. 'Missionary zeal' or 'zeal for reform' both suggest someone who throws real energy and devotion into what they believe in. It's a fairly formal, somewhat literary word, and when it's very strong it can start to sound a little extreme.
