Zürich is the largest city in Switzerland, in the German-speaking north of the country, sitting at the top end of a long lake with the Alps visible to the south. It is not the capital — that is Bern, which surprises many people — but it is the country's money city, home to the Swiss stock exchange and to big banks like UBS, so in business news 'Zurich' often means the banking world rather than the place, in the way 'Wall Street' means American finance.
It is also a university city, an expensive city — it regularly appears on lists of the most expensive cities in the world — and a transport hub, since Zurich Airport is where most flights into Switzerland land.
Spelling: the German form is Zürich with two dots (an ), and English writers keep the dots or drop them, so Zurich and Zürich are both fine in English. The German pronunciation is roughly 'TSÜ-rikh'; English speakers usually say 'ZOO-rik' or 'ZYOO-rik', and nobody minds. Like most city names it takes no 'the': in Zurich, to Zurich, from Zurich.
組成An old place name, recorded in Roman times as Turicum, long before German or English existed. Where that name came from is not settled — it is probably Celtic, from a personal name — so it is safest to say only that it is very old and its meaning is uncertain.
