You can think of yourself as a little mirror placed on the word 'you': it bounces the action straight back at the same person it started from. You hurt yourself — the and the one hurt are one and the same. Every other use is a tilt of that mirror: turned up to stress 'you and nobody else', or turned to draw the edge of a circle that holds only you — alone, , or with something all to you.
