A yeti is a big creature, covered in hair, that walks on two legs like a person, and that some people believe lives high up in the Himalaya mountains — the snowy mountains of Nepal and Tibet. Nobody has ever caught one or shown a body, so scientists do not accept that it is real. It lives in stories, in things people say they saw far away in the snow, and in film and comics. In English you will also hear it called the Abominable Snowman, which is an older name from newspapers; "yeti" is the shorter, more normal word now. Because of that mountain-and-snow feeling, people also use it loosely for a person who is very big and hairy, or for something huge and shaggy — "he came in from the cold looking like a yeti" is a joke about a man with a big beard and messy hair, not a real claim. Note that Bigfoot (also called Sasquatch) is the North American version of the same idea; they are separate creatures in the stories, and Americans will correct you if you mix them up. Yeti is also a well-known brand of cool boxes and drink bottles in America, so in some sentences the word is just a company name. It takes a and the like any normal countable noun: a yeti, two yetis.
