'Won't' is the short form of 'will not'. You use it to say that something is not going to happen in the future ('It won't rain tomorrow'), or that a person refuses to do something ('She won't talk to me'). That second use is important: 'won't' often carries a feeling of refusing, not just of not-happening. 'He won't help' can mean he is unwilling, not simply that he is unavailable. We also use it for things — machines and objects — that fail to work: 'The door won't open', 'My phone won't turn on'. Here nothing is refusing on purpose, but English talks about it as if it were. In questions, 'won't you' is a soft, old-fashioned invitation: 'Won't you sit down?' In everyday speaking and in friendly writing, 'won't' is completely normal; in a very formal report or a legal paper, people often write 'will not' in full. If you want to sound strong or angry, saying the full 'will NOT' puts the stress on the refusing part.

組成A squeeze of two words into one: 'will not' → 'won't'. The strange part is the spelling — you would expect 'willn't'. Older English had a second form of 'will' that sounded more like 'woll', and that is the one that survived inside this contraction, which is why we say /woʊnt/ and not /wɪlnt/. The apostrophe stands where the 'o' of 'not' used to be.
