Womad is the name of a music festival — really a family of festivals — that brings together musicians from many different countries, so that in one weekend you might hear singers from Mali, drummers from Brazil and a band from Korea. People camp on the site for a few days and move between stages. It started in Britain in 1982, and the co-founder people usually mention is the singer Peter Gabriel. Since then Womad festivals have been held in several countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Spain and Italy; the British one is now at Charlton Park in Wiltshire, in the south-west of England.
