If you only make people laugh, that is funny; if you are only sharp, that is clever; wittily is when the cleverness IS the funny part. Someone answers a hard question in one neat line, and the room laughs because of how well the line was built — that is answering wittily. It describes how someone speaks or writes: to write wittily, to reply wittily, a wittily titled article, a wittily written review. Notice it goes with words, not with actions — you can dance well, but you cannot dance wittily. There is a cultural point worth saying. In British writing especially, being witty is high praise, higher than being funny; it says the person is quick-minded. So "wittily written" in a book review is a real compliment about the writer's brain, not just about laughs. The word is bookish. You will meet it far more in reviews, articles, and novels than in talk, where people say "that was clever" or "good one".
