    To stop believing something comfortable and see the real situation — especially about someone who is fooling you. Often an order: 'Wise up — he's never going to pay you back.' With a topic, use 'to': consumers are wising up to fake reviews. It is direct and can sound harsh, which is sometimes exactly the point.
