    Noun. Weather in which falling snow, blowing snow or thick cloud fills the air so completely that you can see nothing — no ground, no sky, no horizon, no shadows. It is not simply 'a lot of snow'. The part is that everything is the same shade of white, so your eyes have nothing to hold on to: people in a whiteout cannot tell up from down, walk in circles, or step off a cliff edge they never saw. , pilots and drivers treat it as a serious danger, and roads are closed for it. Usually countable — "we were caught in a whiteout", "whiteout conditions on the mountain". There is a second, very different meaning worth knowing. In British English, whiteout (or the brand name ) is the white liquid you paint over a mistake on paper so you can write again — Americans call it white-out, Wite-Out or correction fluid. Same spelling, completely unrelated situation, and context always makes it clear. Sports fans use it a third way: a 'whiteout' is when a whole crowd wears white to a game.
