`Weeny` means very, very small — and it is a warm, childish, playful word rather than a neutral one. Nobody writes it in a report. You hear it from parents talking to children, from friends being cosy with each other, and in phrases where the speaker wants to sound gentle or a bit cute. It is nearly always used before a noun ("a weeny bit," "a weeny little baby"), and very often it is doubled up with `teeny`: **teeny-weeny** is far more common than `weeny` on its own, and that is the form your students are most likely to meet — in songs, cartoons, and joking speech. There is a second use worth knowing: `a weeny bit` works like `a tiny bit`, meaning slightly, just a little. "I'm a weeny bit worried." Here it is softening what you say, making the worry sound small and manageable. This is closer to how the word actually earns its keep in real conversation. It sounds British more than American, and it sounds old-fashioned-cute; a Taiwanese student who uses it in an essay will sound like they swallowed a children's book. Keep it for speech with people you're close to. Be careful of one more thing: in American slang, `weenie` (spelled with -ie, from `wiener`, a sausage) is a completely different word — it means a hot dog, or a foolish weak person, and it is also a rude word for the male body. Same sound, different word.
