The name of a famous English pottery company, and, by extension, the expensive china it makes — plates, cups, bowls, vases. It was started by Josiah Wedgwood in the 1700s in Staffordshire, England. The style people picture is jasperware: a matt, soft-coloured background — most famously a particular chalky blue — with small white figures raised on top, like little white statues stuck to a blue wall. That blue is so recognisable that it became a colour name of its own, "Wedgwood blue". You can use the word three ways: for the company ("Wedgwood was founded in 1759"), for the objects ("her mother left her some Wedgwood"), and as a describing word ("a Wedgwood vase", "Wedgwood blue walls"). It carries a feeling of old money and careful display — the sort of thing kept in a glass cabinet and never actually eaten off. Always capital W. Note the spelling: Wedgwood, not "Wedgewood" — there is no 'e' in the middle.
