we've is the short form of 'we have'. Careful here, because 'have' does two jobs in English and we've is comfortable with only one of them. It is completely normal as the verb in the present perfect: 'We've finished.' 'We've been to Japan twice.' 'We've got a problem.' But when 'have' means to own or possess, on its own, the short form sounds wrong to most speakers — you say 'We have two cars', not 'We've two cars'. (You may see that older, mostly British, in a novel; do not copy it.) The 'we've got' pattern gets around this and is very common in speech. Like the other , it is the default in talking and in casual writing, while 'we have' fits formal writing. Say it as one syllable, /wiːv/ — it sounds the same as 'weave'.
