we're is the short form of 'we are'. It covers everything 'we are' does: who we are ('We're students'), where we are ('We're at the station'), how we feel ('We're tired'), and what we are doing right now ('We're eating'). As with all , this is the normal form in speech and in friendly writing; the full 'we are' sounds either formal or emphatic. One thing to know: you cannot use the short form at the end of a sentence when the 'are' is doing the heavy lifting. 'Yes, we are.' is right; 'Yes, we're.' is wrong. need something to lean on. Pronunciation is the real trouble: we're is one syllable, /wɪə/ in British English or /wɪr/ in American — it sounds close to 'weir' or, for many Americans, almost like 'wear'. It does not sound like 'we are' said fast, and it definitely does not sound like 'were', which is the past tense of 'be'.
