1. 1

A small square of cloth you use to wash your body with, usually your face — you wet it, put soap on it, and rub. Also written wash rag. It is the American English word, and even in America it is the homelier, more countrified of the two names; washcloth is the more usual and more neutral American word, and in Britain people say flannel or face cloth. So a student in Taiwan will meet washcloth far more often than washrag, and should probably say washcloth. Why does washrag exist at all? Because a rag is any old scrap of cloth, often a worn-out one, so washrag quietly says "just a bit of cloth for washing" — plain, no fuss. Some older or Southern American speakers use it as their normal word with no plain-ness intended. It is a countable noun: a washrag, two washrags. Do not confuse it with a or , which is for plates, though people who own both keep them very carefully apart.

    洗臉巾、小方巾(洗澡或洗臉用的小毛巾);台灣一般就說「洗臉毛巾」「小方巾」。美式較常用 washcloth,英式說 flannel。
