A person who serves food in a restaurant — a made-up word meant to cover waiters and waitresses at once, without saying whether the person is a man or a woman. English had a problem: 'waiter' sounded male, 'waitress' sounded female, and people wanted one neutral word. 'Waitron' was one attempt, mostly American, mostly from the 1980s. It never really settled. It sounds slightly like a robot — the '-tron' ending belongs to words like 'Cyclotron' and 'Megatron' — so people usually say it with a smile, or a little sarcasm, about someone doing the job . If you actually need a neutral word today, say 'server' (American) or 'waiting staff' / 'wait staff' for the group. Keep 'waitron' for jokes, and expect that many native speakers have never heard it.
