A wafer is a very thin, light, crisp or cracker. You'll see wafers used between layers of ice cream, in some candy bars, or as a thin cracker to go with cheese. In church, a "communion wafer" is a small, thin piece of bread used in a religious ceremony. In electronics, a "silicon wafer" is a thin slice of material used to make computer chips — a more technical use.
