To walk with short steps while your body rocks from side to side. It is the walk of a duck or a penguin — and that picture is the heart of the word. People waddle too, and when we say a person waddles we usually mean one of three things: they are very heavy, they are heavily pregnant, or they are a small child just learning to walk. It is also a noun: 'the duck's waddle', 'she walked with a waddle'. Used about animals, it is neutral and even . Used about a person, be careful — it can easily sound like you are laughing at their body. The safest uses are about small children, about penguins, and about yourself: pregnant women often say 'I waddle everywhere now'. Saying it about another adult's weight is , even when it is accurate.
組成From Middle English wadelen, a repeating form of waden ('to wade'). The -le ending shows an action done over and over in small movements — so 'waddle' is like 'wade' done in many small rocking steps.
