組成Borrowed from Russian Vladivostok, built from two Russian pieces: vlad-, "to rule, to own" (as in Vladimir), and vostok, "the east". So the name means something like "ruler of the east" — a name chosen in 1860 to say plainly what Russia intended the place to be.
