A vibration is a very fast, small shaking movement, back and forth, that repeats over and over — a phone on silent mode buzzes with vibration, and a guitar string makes sound by quickly after you pluck it. You feel vibration through touch, sometimes even before you hear the sound that comes with it, like feeling a truck rumble by through the floor. The word is also used loosely and to talk about the general feeling or mood of a place or situation — 'good vibrations,' meaning a pleasant atmosphere — though that casual use is closer to slang than to the physical meaning.
