Ventilation is the movement of fresh air into a space, and old, used-up air out of it. Good ventilation in a room means air can flow — through windows, doors, or a fan — so the room does not feel stuffy or trap smells, smoke, or heat. Buildings are often designed with ventilation systems, and fans built in specifically to keep air moving. In medicine, 'ventilation' can also mean helping a patient breathe with a machine when their lungs cannot do it well enough alone.
