    Veg is the short, everyday British way of saying vegetables. You hear it in the kitchen, in the market, and on menus: 'meat and two veg' is a standard British way of describing a plain dinner. It is uncountable and it does not change in the plural — say 'lots of veg', never 'lots of vegs'. Notice the sound: it is said with a soft g, like the start of 'jam', so it rhymes with 'edge'. Two other uses share this spelling. As a verb, to veg, usually 'veg out', means to sit and do nothing at all, especially in front of a screen — the picture is of a person as inactive as a vegetable, and it is friendly rather than insulting when you say it about yourself. And in casual speech 'veg' sometimes stands in for vegetarian, as in a veg option on a menu, though 'veggie' is more common for that. This word is much more British than American; Americans usually say 'veggies'.

組成A clipping — a long word cut short. Vegetable loses everything after the first syllable, and the spelling keeps the g while the sound becomes 'j'.
