Uproarious describes something so noisy with laughter or shouting that it fills the whole room. It splits into two everyday uses. First, about the noise itself: uproarious laughter, uproarious applause, uproarious cheers — loud, sudden, from many people together. Second, about the thing that causes the noise: an uproarious comedy, an uproarious party, an uproarious night out. In this second use it has drifted to mean simply 'extremely funny' or 'wildly lively', and the noise is only implied. Notice that unlike the noun uproar, uproarious is almost always happy. Uproar can be a country furious about a scandal; uproarious is a theatre shaking with laughter. If you want the angry meaning, the adjective does not carry it. It is a slightly formal, written-feeling word — love it — so it appears more in a newspaper's arts pages than in conversation, where people would just say 'hilarious' or 'wild'.
