Untainted means clean — not spoiled, not damaged, and not made worse by something bad that touched it. The word almost always appears with 'by': untainted by scandal, untainted by money, untainted by prejudice. Because it starts with un-, it carries a quiet assumption: the bad thing was nearby, and could have got in, but did not. If you say a politician is untainted by corruption, everyone hears that other politicians around them are not. That is the flavour of the word — it praises one thing by pointing at the dirt next to it.
The bad thing can be real dirt or poison (water untainted by chemicals), but in normal writing it is more often a moral or emotional stain: untainted by greed, untainted by sadness, untainted by the arguments of adults. You will meet it far more in books, news, and serious writing than in daily speech. In conversation, most people just say 'clean' or 'not affected by'.
It is a strong, formal word, and slightly old-fashioned in a nice way. It also suggests something was pure from the start and stayed that way, so it fits well with childhood, memories, love, and reputations — things people feel should stay clean.
