Still holding the old views, and not sorry about it. You use it for a person whose beliefs belong to an earlier time — a time that most people around them have moved on from — and who has refused to update. The classic partners are political and social labels: an unreconstructed Marxist, an unreconstructed Thatcherite, an unreconstructed sexist, an unreconstructed male chauvinist. "He is an unreconstructed socialist of the old school." The tone is nearly always , but it can be — a newspaper might call an old comedian an unreconstructed dinosaur and half-admire him for it. Two things sit underneath the word. First, it assumes there was a change everyone else went through, and this person did not. Second, it hints that the person could have changed and chose not to; it is stubbornness, not ignorance. That is why you would not call a child unreconstructed. The word comes out of a real historical moment. After the American Civil War came the period called Reconstruction, when the defeated Southern states were rebuilt and remade; an unreconstructed rebel was a Southerner who never accepted the new order. English kept the word and lent it to any old believer anywhere. This is a written, educated word — journalism, opinion columns, political talk. It is long, and speakers of English enjoy it a little. It is not a word you need in daily conversation.
死不悔改的、老派守舊的(多指政治或社會觀念頑固不變的人)
組成un- (not) + reconstructed. Reconstruct is re- (again) + construct (build), from Latin construere, "to pile up together" — so to reconstruct is to build again. Someone unreconstructed has not been rebuilt: the old structure of their thinking is standing exactly where it was.
