Literally, not holy — against religious or moral standards. But in everyday spoken English, it's very often used loosely just to mean "terrible," "shocking," or "way too much," with no religious meaning at all — an unholy mess, an unholy , an unholy alliance (a partnership between people or groups who really shouldn't be working together).
