Steady — not slowing down, not , not losing confidence. To falter is to stumble for a moment: your voice shakes, your steps wobble, your courage dips. So unfaltering means none of that happened, all the way through. You will see it with a small set of words, over and over: unfaltering support, unfaltering loyalty, an unfaltering voice, unfaltering steps, unfaltering faith. Notice what those have in common — they are all things that COULD easily have wobbled. That is the heart of the word. It is not just "strong"; it is strong in a situation where wobbling would be understandable. A person reading bad news aloud in an unfaltering voice is not simply calm — they are calm when they had every reason not to be. The word is warm and ; you use it about someone you think well of. It is literary — you will find it in speeches, , book reviews, not in everyday chat. A very close cousin is unwavering, which is more common today and means much the same thing.
組成un- (not) + faltering (stumbling, weakening). Falter itself is an old word for stumbling or hesitating.
