Undismayed means not upset, not discouraged, not thrown off course by something that went wrong. It is a quiet word of praise for someone who keeps going. To be dismayed is to feel that sinking, disappointed shock when a plan collapses or bad news arrives; undismayed is standing there and not sinking. Because of that, it needs a nearby to make sense — the sentence usually names one: "Undismayed by the rain, they carried on with the picnic", "She was undismayed by her first rejection and sent the story out again the next week". The two shapes you will see are "undismayed by + the bad thing" and "remained undismayed". It is a formal, literary word and quite rare — you meet it in biographies, , and adventure stories more than anywhere else, and it has a slightly old-fashioned, gently heroic ring. Everyday English says "not put off", "didn't let it get to her", "took it in her stride". Notice it is milder than fearless: an undismayed person may well have felt the blow, but did not let it stop them. That small distance from bravery is what makes it feel humble rather than .
