1. 1

If you look at someone with unblinking eyes, you keep looking without closing and opening your eyes at all. is that quick shut-and-open we all do every few seconds without thinking, so unblinking means holding a stare completely still — and because we normally cannot help , an unblinking look feels , and often unnerving. That feeling is most of the word's meaning. In stories, an unblinking stare belongs to someone who will not back down, someone strange, a predator, a doll, a camera, a dead body. It rarely feels warm. The usual patterns are 'an unblinking stare', 'unblinking eyes', 'unblinking gaze', and the adverb 'stared unblinkingly at'. There is a second use, built straight out of the first, where nothing to do with eyes is involved: unblinking honesty, an unblinking look at poverty, unblinking courage. Here it means facing something hard without flinching away — the mind refusing to look aside, the way the eyes refused to close. A documentary described as 'an unblinking portrait of the war' is one that does not spare you. This second use is common in reviews and serious journalism and is worth recognising. The word is an adjective only; the verb is 'blink', and there is no verb 'unblink'.

    (眼睛、目光)眨都不眨的、直直盯著的;引申指毫不迴避、正視現實的(如 unblinking honesty 毫不迴避的誠實)
