Unasked-for describes something that arrives without anyone requesting it — and the hyphenated word almost always adds a quiet complaint. The classic pairing is advice: "unasked-for advice" is the aunt telling you when to marry, the colleague explaining your own job to you. The information may even be correct; what the phrase objects to is that nobody invited it. You will also see unasked-for opinion, criticism, comment, help, and sympathy. Interestingly it works the other way too, for pleasant surprises — "an unasked-for kindness", "an unasked-for gift" — where it means the giver acted purely on their own, which makes the gift better. So the word itself is neutral; it simply says "not requested", and the surrounding noun decides whether that is annoying or touching. Keep the hyphen when it stands before a noun. Note that the more common everyday words are unwanted (which does judge) and uninvited; the close formal cousin is unsolicited, which is what you will see on official notices and in the phrase "unsolicited emails".
