A mountain region in western Austria, in the Alps, with Innsbruck as its main city. People go there to ski in winter and to walk and climb in summer, so in English the name usually arrives with holidays and mountains attached. You will often see it written 'the Tyrol' with 'the' in front, like 'the Alps' — both 'in Tyrol' and 'in the Tyrol' are used, the second sounding a little older and more British. Note that the historic region is split: the northern part is in Austria, and South Tyrol (Südtirol / Alto Adige) is in Italy, where many people still speak German. In German it is spelled Tirol, and you will see that spelling on maps and signs there.
組成A place name, so it does not split into meaningful English pieces. It may go all the way back to a Celtic word for 'land' — the same idea as 'dry land'. Scholars are not certain about this, so treat it as a maybe, not a fact.
