Lit by twilight — that soft, dim, half-dark light just after the sun goes down, or just before it comes up. A twilit room, a twilit street, twilit hills: everything is visible but nothing is bright, colours go grey-blue, and edges lose their sharpness. This is a literary word. You will find it in novels, poems and careful descriptive writing; almost nobody says it out loud. In ordinary speech people say 'in the twilight' or 'half-dark' instead. Note the spelling — it is twilit, not 'twilighted'; the ending copies 'lit', the past form of 'light'.
