This is a vulgar, rude slang word, mostly used in British English. Its older, crude meaning is a vulgar word for a woman's , but today people mainly use it as a strong insult meaning someone is stupid or — similar to 'idiot,' but much ruder. Because it's considered offensive, it should be avoided in polite conversation, school, or work.
英式粗俗俚語,罵人「笨蛋、白痴」,用語非常不雅,應避免使用。
組成The origin isn't fully known. There's a famous, well-documented story that the poet Robert Browning used this word in a poem in the 1800s, wrongly believing — based on an old, unclear text — that it meant a piece of a nun's clothing. It didn't, and the mistake became a famous literary embarrassment.
