    示範例句 · Example

We stopped at a small shop for Turkish coffee and a plate of sweets.

    中文翻譯我們在一家小店停下來,喝土耳其咖啡,還有一盤甜點。

Turkish is the adjective that belongs to the country Turkey. It covers three things at once: where something comes from (Turkish coffee), who a person is (a Turkish student), and the language (a Turkish newspaper). It always starts with a capital T, wherever it sits in the sentence. For a person English gives you two ways to say it: a Turkish woman uses this adjective, and a Turk uses the noun. It does not take more or most, because a thing is either from Turkey or it is not.

  2. 2n/ˈtɝːkɪʃ/ · /ˈtɜːkɪʃ/the Turkish language土耳其語

The language people speak in Turkey. It is also an official language in Cyprus and in northern Cyprus.

    這裡的 Turkish 是名詞,是語言的名字。英文的語言名字要大寫,前面不加 the。所以說 I am learning Turkish,不說 the Turkish。它也沒有複數。要說「用某種語言」,英文用 in,例如 in Turkish。同一個字在這一頁做兩件事。當形容詞時可以指國家,當名詞時就只指語言。

Here Turkish is a noun: the name of the language. Language names in English take a capital letter and no article, so you say I am learning Turkish, not the Turkish. They have no plural either. To say what language something is written or spoken in, English uses in: in Turkish. Notice that the same word is doing two jobs across the page — as an adjective it can point at the country, but as a noun it only ever means the language.
