In Christianity, the Trinity is the teaching that God is one God but exists as three: the Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit. Note carefully that Christians do not say this is three gods — they say it is one God in three persons, and the whole point of the word is to hold 'three' and 'one' together at the same time. Written this way, with a capital T and usually 'the', it is a religious term you will meet in churches, hymns, and history books. With a small t, 'a trinity' is used more loosely for any group of three things that belong together and are hard to separate — 'the unholy trinity of sugar, salt and fat' is the kind of thing a newspaper . This looser use is a bit literary; in everyday speech people just say 'the three ___'. You will also see Trinity as a name: Trinity College, Trinity Church, and Trinity as a girl's name in films.
組成From Latin trinitas, from trini 'three each', from tres 'three'. You can see it as trine (threefold) + -ity (the state of being that). Old English used its own word, thrines, literally 'threeness', before the Latin word pushed it out.
